"Ancient traditions combined with contemporary handcraft."
In summer 2019, we have decided to leave Berlin for some time to go on a journey across Brazil. Our goal was to visit traditional artisans, potters and farmers to learn and exchange. In a small Brazilian village near Salvador, we met the 95- years old ceramicist Dona Cadu. The charming old lady is creating beautiful ceramic bowls passionately with her own hands for decades. She only uses clay and glazes she sources from her surrounding. Each bowl is carefully fired in a pit fire with bamboo. Smoke patterns develop on them, making every single piece unique. We have brought a limited number of these beautiful traditional ceramics back into our studio and filled them with our soy wax and seven wood wicks. Creating a little bon fire experience in your home.
Please note that the bowls vary in appearances, because it is a 100 % handmade piece. There might be scratches inside and outside the bowl which give the bowl a even more authentic appearance.
During burning down, the wax pool will not fully reach the sides of the bowl. This is not a production mistake, it is intended. It gives beautiful organic shaped pools in the wax, looking like lakes from above.
The bowl can be used after as a fruit bowl, for potpourri or as a single decorative element. It is not suitable for any liquids or food.
To remove the wax rests after the candle burnt down, heat the bowl in a oven at 60 C. The wax rests will get liquid and you can carefully pour it out. Please note that liquid wax can be very hot. Wipe it after with a paper towel.
Handmade in limited numbers in our studio in Berlin.
